Description
This Garlic Tofu Skillet brings together crispy seared tofu and an aromatic garlic sauce for a vibrant, healthy meal.
Ingredients
1 block (14-16 oz) Extra-Firm Tofu
5–6 cloves Fresh Garlic
2 tablespoons Avocado Oil
3 tablespoons Tamari or Coconut Aminos
1 tablespoon Raw Honey or Maple Syrup
1 teaspoon Fresh Ginger
1 tablespoon Rice Vinegar
1 tablespoon Arrowroot Starch
Green Onions and Sesame Seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Tofu: Start by pressing your block of extra-firm tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes
- Coat for Crunch: Place the tofu cubes in a bowl and gently toss them with arrowroot starch and a pinch of sea salt
- Sear to Perfection: Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu in a single layer and sear undisturbed for 3-4 minutes per side until crispy
- Whisk the Sauce: While the tofu sears, whisk together the tamari, honey, rice vinegar, and grated ginger in a small bowl
- Infuse the Garlic: Reduce the heat to medium. Push the tofu to the sides and add minced garlic to the center. Sauté for 30-60 seconds
- The Final Toss: Pour the sauce over the tofu and stir constantly as it bubbles and thickens
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and top with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately
Notes
To achieve ultimate crispiness, do not crowd the pan.
Use fresh ginger rather than powdered for better flavor.
