Ingredients
2 Steaks (6 oz each) Ahi Tuna
1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil
2 Tablespoons Coconut Aminos
1 Teaspoon Sesame Oil
1 Teaspoon Honey or Monk Fruit
1 Teaspoon Fresh Ginger (grated)
2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds
Sea Salt & Black Pepper To Taste
Instructions
- Pat the Fish Dry: Remove the tuna steaks from the refrigerator and pat them dry with a paper towel
- Prepare the Marinade: Whisk together coconut aminos, sesame oil, honey, and grated ginger in a small bowl
- Marinate Briefly: Place the tuna in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it for no more than 10 minutes
- Coat with Seeds: Press each side of the marinated tuna into sesame seeds for an even coating
- Heat the Pan: Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat, add avocado oil until it shimmers
- The Sear: Sear the tuna for 45 to 60 seconds per side, including the narrow edges for 15 seconds each
- Rest: Let the tuna rest for two minutes on a cutting board before slicing
- Slice and Serve: Slice the tuna against the grain into half-inch thick pieces
Notes
Ensure your pan is very hot before cooking to achieve the perfect sear.
If using leftovers, do not reheat in the microwave; instead, use a quick flash-sear in a hot pan to warm slightly.
