Description

This Steamed Kale Skillet brings vibrant, emerald leaves glistening under a light coating of olive oil, infused with garlic and lemon, for a delightful and nutritious dish that complements many meals.

Ingredients

Scale

2 large bunches Fresh Curly or Lacinato Kale
2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
4 cloves Fresh Garlic, minced
1/2 large Lemon, juice
1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
Sea Salt & Black Pepper to taste
1/4 cup Vegetable Broth or Water

Instructions

  1. Wash the kale thoroughly and remove the tough center ribs. Tear or chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sauté until garlic is fragrant
  3. Add kale in batches to the skillet, tossing to coat the leaves with oil and garlic
  4. Pour in the vegetable broth or water, cover with a lid, and steam for 3 to 5 minutes until the kale is bright green and tender
  5. Remove the lid, check for excess liquid, then squeeze lemon juice over the kale and season with salt and pepper before serving

Notes

For a smoky flavor, add smoked paprika during steaming.

If you find kale too bitter, massage the leaves with olive oil and salt before cooking.
